- Scanning items
- Processing payments
- Issuing receipts
- Handling returns and exchanges
- Applying discounts and promotions
- Balancing cash registers
Customer service Greeting customers, Answering customer questions, Bagging purchases, and Maintaining a friendly demeanor.
Checkout area maintenance Keeping the checkout area clean and functional and Cleaning registers and belts.
Other responsibilities Gift-wrapping packages, Tracking cash and credit transactions, and Staying informed about product offerings and promotions.
Skills and experience
Cashiers should have good math skills, attention to detail, and experience with cash handling and point-of-sale systems. They should also have previous experience in a customer service position.
