Responsibilities

Customer Service: Greet customers pleasantly and assist them in a friendly manner. Address customer inquiries and resolve issues.

Processing Transactions: Accurately process transactions using a cash register or point-of-sale (POS) system, including cash, credit/debit card, and checks.

Handling Money: Count cash in the register at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring accuracy and security of funds.

Maintaining Records: Keep accurate records of sales and transactions, and reconcile cash drawers at the end of shifts.

Scanning Merchandise: Efficiently scan items, apply discounts, and process returns or exchanges as necessary.

Promoting Sales: Inform customers about ongoing promotions or loyalty programs to enhance sales opportunities.

Bagging Purchases: Package items for customers in a neat and efficient manner, ensuring fragile items are handled with care.

Stocking and Tidying: Assist in keeping the checkout area organized and well-stocked with necessary supplies like bags and receipt paper.

Adhering to Policies: Follow company policies and procedures regarding cash handling, customer privacy, and transactions.

Performing Miscellaneous Duties: Depending on the setting, a cashier may also assist with inventory management, restocking shelves, or performing light cleaning tasks.
