Job Description
Key responsibilities of a barista:
- Taking orders and interacting with customers: Greeting customers, taking orders accurately, and providing personalized recommendations based on their preferences.
- Coffee preparation: Grinding fresh coffee beans, operating espresso machines, brewing different types of coffee drinks (lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, etc.).
- Beverage knowledge: Understanding different coffee origins, brewing methods, and menu items to answer customer questions.
- Cash handling: Accurately processing payments and handling cash transactions.
- Maintaining cleanliness: Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, work surfaces, and the overall coffee shop area.
- Stock management: Replenishing coffee beans, syrups, milk, and other supplies as needed.
- Upselling and promoting specials: Suggesting additional items like pastries or special coffee drinks to customers.
- Following food safety guidelines: Adhering to proper hygiene practices and food handling procedures.
Essential skills for a barista:
- Customer service skills: Excellent communication, ability to build rapport with customers, and handle complaints effectively.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in operating espresso machines, grinders, and other coffee brewing equipment.
- Multitasking ability: Efficiently handling multiple orders at once in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail: Ensuring consistent quality in every beverage prepared.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work various shifts including weekends and holidays.
